Sunyani, June 26, 2026 — The Dormaa Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani carried out a pastoral visitation to the Sunyani Central Prison on Friday, continuing the Diocese’s annual prison ministry apostolate in which each deanery takes its turn ministering to inmates through prayer, pastoral accompaniment, and charitable works.

Rev. Fr. Stephen Obour Yeboah led the delegation, standing in for the Dean of Dormaa Deanery, Rev. Msgr. Boakye Gyan, who had delegated the assignment to him. He was joined by priests, religious, parish leaders, and lay faithful drawn from across the Deanery.

Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Bediako, a priest of the Diocese who serves as Catholic Chaplain of the Sunyani Central Prison and as a Prisons Officer, was also present, having long played a key role in accompanying inmates on their faith journey.

In a gesture of Christian charity, the Deanery donated an array of essential supplies to the inmates, including nine bags of rice, seven bags of maize, five large gallons of palm oil and two smaller ones, tinned tomatoes and sardines, soap, sachet water, five crates of eggs, and other provisions.

Superintendent Agyemang Duah received the donations on behalf of the prison authorities, conveying their gratitude for the Deanery’s generosity and acknowledging the Diocese’s enduring commitment to prison ministry.

The visitation stands as a renewed expression of the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani’s commitment to one of the Church’s corporal works of mercy — visiting those in prison — bringing hope, encouragement, and the love of Christ to inmates, while affirming their inherent dignity as children of God.
