Sunyani, March 27, 2026 – The Sunyani Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani has undertaken a pastoral visitation to the Sunyani Central Prison as part of the Diocese’s ongoing mandate for prison ministry, a core apostolate carried out throughout the year across all deaneries.

The initiative, organized on a rotational basis, saw the Sunyani Deanery take its turn to engage inmates through spiritual support and charitable works.

The pastoral visitation was led by the Cathedral Administrator, who also serves as the Dean of the Sunyani Deanery, and was joined by Rev. Msgr. Richard Kyeremeh, Parish Priest of St. Joseph Parish, Abesim, together with several priests working within the Deanery and their respective parish leaders.

During the visit, the delegation offered words of encouragement and donated essential items, including plantain, rice, maize, gari, beans, clothing, soap, and other supplies. The donations were made on behalf of the Bishop of Sunyani, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, and the Deanery.

In an address to the inmates, the Dean emphasized the Church’s mission to reach out to all, particularly those on the margins of society, affirming the dignity and worth of every human person.

Rev. Msgr. Richard Kyeremeh, who delivered the main reflection, spoke on themes of mercy, human dignity, and the possibility of transformation, encouraging inmates to remain hopeful and open to renewal.

A representative of the inmates expressed gratitude for the visit and appealed for continued support, especially in facilitating their reintegration into society upon release.

The visitation concluded with prayers and a final blessing. The items were formally received by the second-in-command of the Sunyani Central Prison, Chief Superintendent of Prisons, Mr. Samuel Addai, who conveyed appreciation on behalf of the inmates and prison authorities.

The visit underscores the Diocese’s sustained commitment to prison ministry as an essential apostolate, promoting hope, dignity, and inclusion for all.
