Welcome
The Catholic Diocese of Sunyani is blessed with a vibrant vocation culture. We are committed to fostering and nurturing priestly and religious vocations among our young people. The Vocations Office accompanies men and women discerning God’s call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, and lay ecclesial ministry.
Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the pastoral care of Bishop Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, we provide spiritual direction, formation programs, retreats, and accompaniment to help discerners answer “Here I am, Lord, send me.”

Major Seminaries
Pontifical Universities, Rome
Our two seminarians are pursuing advanced theological studies at Pontifical institutions in Rome, preparing for priestly service with a universal perspective.
St. Victor’s Major Seminary
One of the major seminaries serving the northern provinces, forming priests in philosophy and theology with a commitment to missionary discipleship.
St. Gregory the Great Seminary
A regional major seminary offering philosophical and theological formation to seminarians from various dioceses in Ghana.
St. Paul’s Major Seminary
Located in the Greater Accra Region, St. Paul’s provides theological formation with emphasis on pastoral integration and academic excellence.
St. Peter’s Regional Seminary
One of the oldest major seminaries in Ghana, St. Peter’s forms future priests in a rich tradition of spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral excellence.
Formation Pathway
Propaedeutic Stage
The first year of formation focuses on spiritual foundation, human maturity, and introduction to priestly identity. Candidates live in community and discern their readiness for philosophy studies.
Philosophy Stage
A two-year period of philosophical studies, typically at a minor seminary or affiliated institution, building the rational foundation for theological understanding.
Theology Stage
A four-year program at a major seminary, covering Sacred Scripture, Dogmatic Theology, Moral Theology, Liturgy, Canon Law, and Pastoral Theology.
Pastoral Year
A supervised year of practical ministry in a parish, experiencing the joys and challenges of priestly service before diaconate ordination.
Discerning Your Vocation
Signs of a Priestly Vocation
- Desire to serve God and His people as a priest
- Active participation in parish life and sacraments
- Prayerfulness and devotion to the Eucharist and Mary
- Good moral character and emotional maturity
- Leadership potential and ability to work with others
- Encouragement from spiritual directors and pastors
Steps to Begin
- Pray daily for guidance and openness to God’s will
- Speak with your parish priest or spiritual director
- Contact the Diocesan Vocations Director
- Attend vocation retreats and discernment gatherings
- Participate in Eucharistic adoration and spiritual direction
- Complete the application and screening process
